Week 15 of 17: August 24 -August 31 (Build 3)

August 31st: Ran 6 miles.

August 30th, Team Practice at Zuma Beach: Today we the close to full race distances once again, but without the simulated race element. Swam 1/2 mile, biked 15 miles, ran 4 miles.

August 28th:
Ran 4 miles, swam 900 yards

August 27th: Biked 10 miles

August 26th: Biked 6 miles, ran 1 mile

August 25th: Recovery Day

OK, here it is. I tried to include as many elements of the race as I could: swimming, cycling, running, B.C.'s flower - the dogwood, a palm tree for Southern California and Juno, Jeff''s beautiful boxer puppy with her ears that flop to one side.

Week 14 of 17: August 18 -August 24 (Build 2)

August 24th: Biked 18 miles, ran 2 miles

August 23rd, Team Mock Triathlon at Zuma Beach: Today we did a mock-tri of Malibu course! My time was 2:09 and felt my swimming was my strongest sport, followed by running and biking. The course distances were: 1/2 mile swim, 18 mile bike ride and 4 mile run. GO TEAM!


August 22nd: M.I.A. due to first day at my new job! Training and working will be my art form from now on.

August 21st, Team Practice at Santa Monica Pool: Swam 1450 yards/0.82 miles/1.32K

August 20th: Swam 0.78 miles/1.2K in the ocean and ran 3 miles.

I came home tonight to find this in my mailbox from my TNT team manager:

Week 13 of 17: August 11 -August 17 (Build 1)

August 17th, Hansen Dam Sprint Triathlon: Today, about half our team members raced in the Hansen Dam Triathlon in the San Fernando Valley. This was a 'practice' triathlon for the team, a chance for us to practice our transitions and work out any kinks in our race game. My time was 1:14:51, I placed 32nd out of 64 women in my age group. Here are the course details and my split times (self timed):
 
500 yard swim(56% of Malibu course) ~ 10 minutes
11 mile bike ride (61% of Malibu course) ~ 35 minutes
3 mile trail run (75% of Malibu course) - 29 minutes

After the race, we enjoyed a refreshing water slide. As I came out of the pool, the MC announced that I had won a $100 gift certificate at a women's specific sports store, a great ending to the race. 


I'm really proud to be on a team with so many remarkable people!

August 16th, Team Practice in Santa Monica: Swam 0.75 miles/1.2K in the ocean, ran 5.5 miles.

August 15th: Biked 10 miles, ran 2 miles, my fastest run since I started training - going from my usual 10 miles/minute to 9 miles/minute!

August 14th, Team Practice at Santa Monica Swimming Pool: Swam 1500 yards (0.85 miles/1.4K), practiced increasing lung capacity.

Week 12 of 17: August 4 -August 10

August 9th, Team Practice at Zuma Beach: Today was a big practice. We got our wetsuits and did our first ocean swim, about 1/2 a mile, transitioned to our bikes for a 15 mile ride on the very hilly Pacific Coast Highway and then transitioned to a short run. I felt strong throughout the practice. My goal from now until the race is to stay strong and to not get injured.

August 8th: Ran 2 miles.

August 7th, Team Swim Practice at Santa Monica Pool: Swam 1200 yards (o.7/1.1K). Today we practiced dolphining, which is kind of like a butterfly stroke except you do this at the beginning of the race in water that is too shallow to swim in, but too deep to run in quickly. You have to swing your arms forward and push off the ground, dive in and repeat. It's actually quite fun. I also got an hour long massage today as a part of recovery week - ahhh.

August 6th: Biked 10 miles, this was my first ride on clip-less pedals. So far, so good - I didn't fall over at the stop light and enjoyed being a little lighter on the bike. It's hard to tell if I am actually going faster, since I wasn't going at maximum capacity, being recovery week and all, but I think they will help.



August 5th: Ran 2 miles, swam 1200 yards (0.7 miles/1.1K)
